The manor is large enough that if I avoid certain areas at certain times, I don’t have to see another person for several minutes. I can walk the majestic halls in solitude, devoting myself to admiring the history and the architecture.
The same goes for the grounds, 100 acres available for me to explore. I managed to reach the woods before a warning went out, telling us to stay out of the woods because of an electric fence a neighboring farmer put up.
In this, I count myself fortunate. I probably won’t stay out of the woods, but I know where the fence is not.
As for the rest of the manor, the grand house has left me speechless, even as I manage to find shortcuts and secret doors. I know four ways to get down from my floor, and two ways to reach the next floor.
To call them floors is misleading. We have the bistro in the basement, the refectory (dining hall) above that. We have to walk up stairs to get to the staterooms and down stairs to get to the other practical rooms. The corridor containing most of the four hundred rooms is four steps above the three hundred rooms, also known as the blue corridor.
To make it easier, I’ve comprised a list of my four staircases, and how frequently I use them.
I call this one Main Stair and I use it the least, only after certain classes do I climb it.
This one is Minor Stairs (the first owner would use these stairs to go to breakfast). I use this one a lot. It is very conveniet for me, because it takes me outside, from one class to my floor, and to the state rooms.
This is Library stairs (mostly used for laundry and going between room and work study). It takes me right past "floor" two, which is where the boys live (the 200's corridor).
Finally we reach the Lift stairs, which I use the most. I use them for going to food, coming back from food, going from food to class, and all sorts of other things.
The great hall, I have no classes in here, the only class in here is chior, but I walk through it every class day.
The morning room, where the owners of the house would eat breakfast. I don't have any classes in here, either.
The drawing room, probably one of the last pictures of the room before they started restoring it (it will probably be a classroom next year).
The gold room, used to be a music room. I have two classes in here, so concentrating on the Professor is very hard.
The Long Gallary, where everyone listens to the British Studies Lecture. They speak so quickly I don't have time to admire the room.
The ante room (or the best picture I have of it). This room is a go between room for the State Dinning Room and the Long Gallary.
And this is the state dinning room. Sadly, I have no class in here, but that is also a good thing.
As for how I keep locations straight, I have a number of hallways I refer to, and that I use when talking with others.
The blue corridor that my "floor" is an off-shoot of. This is where the professors live.
The Great Hall hallway, connecting the GH to the pink corridor.
The yellow corridor, with library, offices, and laundry all stemming from it
The pink corridor, where minor stairs end, leading to lift stairs, GH hallway, and the morning/drawing rooms.
Stone corridor, down in a basement. I say a basement, because we have about three seprate basement like places. This one leads to a lot of staircases, sheet exchange, and other offices.
Finally, the Main Stair Hallway, or State Room Hall, because it connects to GH, the Gold Room, the Long Gallary, and the Ante Room. The only state room not connected to it on this side of the GH is the State Dinning Room.
Finally, one of my favorite places, the conservatory.
Those doors lead to the Gold Room.
I’ve settled in quite nicely, and I think this will be a good semester. As there is nothing else to really say, I bid everyone a good night.
The manor lit up at night.
