Grinning in Grantham

The weekend dawned gray and wet on Friday, and we had class that day so I knew I would not go far on Saturday.  Low and behold, Saturday was also overcast and drippy.  However, that did not stop me.  My goal?  Grantham, three miles away it is the closest town to me, and a quaint little place.  Travel was free, so I barely spent any money on my trip.

First I admired the statue of Isaac Newton outside the Newton Shopping center, before I made my way past the cinema to the River Witham.  I followed Witham up quite the way until I reached the play area inside the park, which wasn’t even on my map.  I had been headed towards Grantham house but decided against going all the way as I didn’t think my joints could handle it.

Farm right next to the river.

Lots of ducks here.

Found the kiddie pool.

They labled this the Sensory Garden

I think this is where Newton found Gravity.

Turns out I found the perfect place to turn around, because I entered town right at the Welcome sign.
Apple falling out of the tree.

I followed the road back until I recognized the tall spire of St. Wulfram’s Cathedral.  Walking from there to the Market, I bought lunch (12 mandarins, 200 grams of fudge, a large home-baked roll, and a raspberry tart for under five pounds).  Taking my spoils I walked back along Witham as I made my way to the Cemetery.
I did find this old house with a broken widow.

St. Wulfram's from the back.  Yes, that is a graveyard.

St. Wulfram's from the front.  It's a very tall spire.

Can you spot the Gentleman's Club?

I suppose even roosters need to visit the dead.

Unlike my other times leaving the manor grounds I took Grantham on my own with only the advice of the coach driver.  Grantham might be about the size of Oak Harbor in terms of population, which is probably why I felt so comfortable there.
As for why I was grinning even though I was ill . . . Well, I think it is hysterical when I talk to myself, and I talked to myself a lot when looking at the highly confusing map I had.
Getting ready for Edinburgh. JClark.
